In June at the White Mountains Triathlon, I met a bunch of awesome people (an athlete, several volunteers, and the executive director) from Adaptive Sports Partners of the North Country. I learned that ASPNC offers year-round sports to a variety of partner athletes - hiking, biking, swimming, kayaking, skiing, rock climbing, golf, disc golf, bocce, gardening, and more. Many of their activities are during the weekday, but I was able to join for kayaking on July 17th and had a great time!
I was encouraged to sign up for Sunrise Ascent on August 1st. I joined Team Chester and we set off at 4:30am to conquer the 7.6 mile auto road. We hit the summit (6,288 feet) a little more than 4 hours later.
I was late to sign up for Sunrise Ascent and wasn't able to fundraise in advance. So I'm taking the month of August and planning to donate $1 for every mile I walk, run, hike, or kayak this month. These funds will help ASPNC offer sports to more athletes and to provide equipment like the trail chair that Chester used to conquer Mt. Washington. I know how important sports have been to me throughout my life, including this past year when I could do some activities like hiking, but couldn't do team sports like rugby.
I'm planning for a minimum for 30 miles but hoping to get 60 or more. Will you join me and donate? You can pick an amount that's right for you, or plan $1/mile for your workouts this month. Thank you in advance for supporting ASPNC!
