It's been 8 years now since our family first learned of the Sunrise Ascent on Mt. Washington and as Sasha's Mom, I instantly knew she would want to be a part of this special event. Sasha is an adventurer at heart, a fearless and inquisitive individual with a deep love of nature and people. She will soon turn 25 years old as she defies the expectations of her journey with Sanfilippo Syndrome.

Diagnosed at the age of 9, Sanfilippo Syndrome is a rare degenerative genetic condition affecting the central nervous system. As parents, it has been a difficult road witnessing the loss of many skills. In recent years, while Sanfilippo Syndrome has subdued some of Sasha's inherent traits, the Sunrise Ascent on Mt. Washington still brings her tremendous joy.
