This year’s Sunrise Ascent is especially meaningful to me. While the Martin Wallem ALS Foundation has proudly supported this event as title sponsor, this is the first time I’ll be able to participate in person—and on a weekend, no less! I’ll be volunteering as a roadrunner, helping bring hikers back down the mountain after their inspiring trek up in support of those living with ALS.

My brother Martin, for whom this foundation is named, was the heart and inspiration behind so much of what we do. Even after ALS stole his ability to move, breathe, or speak, his adventurous spirit remained untouched. He faced each day with determination, courage, and love—and this climb is a tribute to that resilience.
